KARES Foundation Non-Discrimination and Equal Opportunity Policy
KARES Foundation is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and equitable organization and community. As a family-led organization serving individuals and families affected by KDM5C genetic variants, we recognize and value the diversity of the families, researchers, clinicians, advocates, volunteers, and partners who make up the KARES community.
KARES does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic information, socioeconomic status, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
This commitment applies to all areas of KARES activities, including employment and contracting, volunteer opportunities, board and committee participation, research funding and collaboration, educational programs, conferences and events, family support services, and access to organizational resources.
KARES is committed to providing reasonable accommodations and making programs and activities as accessible as reasonably possible for individuals with disabilities. We recognize that KDM5C can affect communication, mobility, cognition, behavior, and other aspects of daily life, and we strive to create an environment in which individuals with disabilities and their families can participate fully and meaningfully.
KARES also recognizes the importance of diversity within rare disease research and advocacy. We seek to encourage participation and leadership from individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives, including those from historically underrepresented communities. Our leadership and scientific advisory bodies reflect our commitment to gender diversity, with women comprising the majority of both our Board of Directors and Scientific Advisory Board.
KARES expects all members of its community to treat one another with dignity and respect. Harassment, intimidation, bullying, discrimination, or retaliation will not be tolerated in connection with KARES activities, whether occurring in person or through online platforms.
Concerns regarding discrimination, harassment, or violations of this policy may be reported to a member of the KARES Board of Directors or organizational leadership. KARES will make reasonable efforts to review concerns promptly, respectfully, and confidentially to the extent possible.
Through this policy, KARES is committed to building a community where every individual and family affected by KDM5C is welcomed, respected, valued, and given the opportunity to participate.
